What, Where, When, How

Internet Safety!

Internet safety is so important, if you have to be careful who knows where you go on the internet,
this information is for you. The best plan is to use a computer somewhere other than home. If that is not possible, the following inforation will help. First be aware that eveything you do, from email, documents, to search history are stored on your computer. Knowing what to delete and what settings to change will help.

E-Mail

It is important not to use a computer based e-mail program, such as outlook express. It is far safer to use a web based one such as g-mail (which also has a secure setting for logging in. There is also Yahoo mail, Hotmail and AOL.

Google also has a way to create and keep documents online instead of on your computer.

  • Google Mail GMAIL.
  • Yahoo Mail.
  • Hotmail.
  • Use common sense when making choices, call the hot-line if you need help!

Online Banking and Credit

At the top of this page is the "Address" bar, followed by HTTP:// when you are doing online banking or filling out credit information, personal information etc, MAKE SURE there is an "S" after the HTTP! It should read HTTPS:// to be a secure page! The "S" should appear on the first page where you begin entering information.

  • Browser Settings: search, forms and passwords
